The great American poet Allen Ginsberg once visited Sergei Parajanov at his home in Tbilisi, Georgia, Soviet Union (USSR). Another great American, the author John Updike, also dropped by on a separate occasion. Later, Ginsberg attended the US premiere of Paradjanov’s film Ashik Kerib at the New York Film Festival (NYFF). In 1995, Mikhail Vartanov was invited by Allen Ginsberg to his New York apartment for dinner (Ginsberg cooked), and later Jonas Mekas organized a private screening of Vartanov’s Parajanov: The Last Spring at the Anthology Film Archives. During that screening, Allen Ginsberg shed a tear and afterwards praised the film.
