When I met Agnes Varda in Hollywood, I showed her a book inscribed to me by her friend Luce Vigo (during the Parajanov-Vartanov Institute’s Jean Vigo retrospective in 2011). It was a book by Veronique Godard (sister of Jean-Luc Godard) that both Agnes Varda and Luce Vigo wrote introductions for. Varda was delighted by this small surprise and inscribed it too. Today, March 29th, Agnes Varda passed away in Paris. I will always remember the afternoon I spent with Papa watching Varda’s Cleo from 5 to 7 for the first time.
