Parajanov-Vartanov Institute attended the North American premiere of Sergei Parajanov’s restored masterpiece The Color of Pomegranates at the Toronto International Film Festival where it was introduced by Martin Scorsese. The Parajanov-Vartanov Institute’s founder Martiros Vartanov worked with The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project, headed by Mr. Scorsese, and Cineteca di Bologna’s L’Immagine Ritrovata, on the restoration of Sergei Parajanov’s magnum opus after their chance meeting at the Busan International Film Festival‘s Parajanov and Vartanov Retrospective. The restored Color of Pomegranates premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, as well as with Mikhail Vartanov’s Parajanov: The Last Spring at Italy’s esteemed 28th Il Cinema Ritrovato Film Festival. The Oscar’s Academy of Motion Pictures (AMPAS) held the digitally restored masterpiece’s US premiere at the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art (LACMA) in September together with The Last Film by Martiros Vartanov. It was then screened at New York Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival in October.
