Svetlana Parajanov & Svetlana Vartanov
Sergei Paradjanov and Mikhail Vartanov both married beautiful women named Svetlana. Both Svetlana Parajanov (teacher) and Svetlana Vartanov (film editor) were about 15 years younger than their filmmaker husbands and both of their firstborns were boys, Suren and Martiros, who’re also friends like their fathers. Svetlana Paradjanov (Светлана Щербатюк Параджанова) and Svetlana Vartanov (Светлана Манучарян Вартанова) both appear in Vartanov‘s Parajanov: The Last Spring.
Mrs Parajanov and Mrs Vartanov came together in 2010 in Hollywood to help establish the Parajanov-Vartanov Institute. Svetlana means “light” – an indispensable element of cinema, as we all know, and both Svetlanas were irreplaceable partners for Sergei and Mikhail, which should never be forgotten.
