The first Parajanov & Vartanov film retrospective and art exhibition at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival in South Korea was curated by Martiros Vartanov in 2012. Some 40 years after they were made, the never before publicly screened documentaries by Mikhail Vartanov premiered with the masterpieces of Sergei Parajanov. The second Parajanov/Vartanov film retrospective took place in 2020 at the Copenhagen Cinematheque, was organized by the Danish Film Institute, and featured a special appearance by Martiros M. Vartanov (Boy with a Movie Camera).
The latest Sergei Parajanov and Mikhail Vartanov film retrospective, entitled Filmkunstens fantomer, was organized by the Oslo Cinematheque and Norsk filminstitutt in 2024. It opened with the new 4K restoration of Vartanov’s Parajanov: The Last Spring and was introduced by Martiros M. Vartanov (Boy With A Movie Camera), who also presented the screenings of Parajanov’s Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors and The Color of Pomegranates.
