The legendary filmmaker Sergei Parajanov filmed an adaptation of the great Russian poet Mikhail Lermontov’s Ashik Kerib in 1988. When Parajanov was younger he also wanted to be cast as Lermontov in another movie. One of Parajanov’s cherished but unproduced projects was The Demon, also based on Lermontov.
