Aram Khachaturian

Khachaturian with Saryan

The great classical composer Aram Khachaturian who composed one of the most famous melodies of all time, Sabre Dance (ballet Gayane), was born in Tbilisi like the legendary filmmaker Sergei Parajanov. Both Parajanov and Khachaturian rest in peace at the Pantheon in Armenia’s capital near the genius American writer William Saroyan, and the great Armenian painter Martiros Saryan who painted Khachaturian in 1944 and appeared (with Parajanov) in Mikhail Vartanov‘s film The Color of Armenian Land (1969).
