Michelangelo Antonioni
“The Color of Pomegranates by Parajanov, in my opinion, one of the best contemporary film directors, astonishes with its perfection of beauty”
— Michelangelo Antonioni
It’s clear that Parajanov was delighted by such praise and responded by turning it into an artwork, just as with Federico Fellini‘s letter. Parajanov’s inscription below reads: “What said Mikel-angello Antonioni! why? about whom?”

After watching Michelangelo Antonioni’s L’Avventura at home in Hollywood with Papa, I found out that Antonioni was coming to Los Angeles (September 2005). We went to LACMA and saw a documentary his wife Enrica Antonioni directed about him, and then they brought Michelangelo Antonioni on stage. It was an immense experience. I photographed him, and Papa did too. Our encounter with him and his wife was brief, but their reaction to our gift to them, a copy of our film Parajanov: The Last Spring, will stay in my memory forever.
